PreMedicine Curriculum
Pre-Medicine is a track made up of courses required for entry to medical school, along with those for bachelor’s degree and major of your choice. This prepares you for admission into a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program
Sequencing
- It is best to take CHEM 130 and BIOL 150 is the same semester. At KU, students can only take BIOL 150 concurrently or after they have completed a semester of college Chemistry (CHEM 130).
- Students interested in PreMedicine at KU with the idea of graduating in 4 years, it is best to come calculus eligible (Math ACT 26+ or transfer College Algebra credit) so you can begin taking science coursework your first semester.
- The KU School of Medicine accepts the CHEM 331 - Organic Chemistry I, as meeting their organic lab requirement, without needing the CHEM 336 Organic II lab. Lectures for both are required.
- Plan to complete all PreMed track courses by the end of your Junior year, as they cover content needed for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

Curriculum Facts
- Course Repeat is not accepted.
- Credit/NoCredit is not allowed within the PreMedicine track courses.
- KU Core - take PSYC 104 for Goal 3S, and SOC 104 for Goal 4.1 - for MCAT.
- MCAT also uses knowledge from BIOL 600 - Biochemistry.
- Additional recommended courses - calculus, statistics, microbiology, immunology, and mammalian physiology
- Microbiology is a prerequisite for immunology courses at KU.
