Supporting your Student

At KU, your student is our student. Every student that decides to complete their education at KU should be supported, both at the University and by other guiding forces within their life.

Ways KU Supports Your Student:

Advising

Regular advising check-ins with students before, during and after enrollment

Writing Center

The KU Writing Center provides students the ability to submit work for peer review by KU Grad Students and Peer Editors. Students can make appointments over the phone, via email, or in-person.

University Career Center

KU also supports the career advancement of students by having interview preparation and resume/CV review for students looking to apply to Medical School; check out the University Career Center's information for family

Ways You Can Support Your Student:

Provide support

While each student has a different support system, having one that is encouraging and supportive is best. The transition for students in college can be overwhelming but having a strong support system can make that transition easier!

Be goal oriented

Have conversations with your student about future goals. Whether those goals are made one year at a time or through a five-year plan, having these conversations with your student will allow for a 'big-picture' view of their college years.

Connect with us

If you have any questions or would like some materials regarding Pre-Health education at KU, please reach out to us. We would love to talk with you and your student about their educational goals!

How to Help When Plans Change:

College is a time for students to explore different aspects of life. Oftentimes, that may lead to taking new classes and finding new passions, or it could mean that some students realize Pre-Health no longer fits in with their educational goals. At KU, we encourage students to explore KU both inside and outside of the classroom. If you are faced with your student wanting to change future career goals and find yourself uncertain how to move forward, here are some helpful guides for both students and their support systems:

Refer them to an advisor

Our Pre-Health advisors will be able to direct students to whomever they may need to talk to such as an advisor within a new area of study, a career coach, a professional in their field or interest, etc.; our advisors can help with it all!

Provide support

Pre-Health can be grueling, especially for students who may need extra help to make certain requirements for Professional School. If those plans change, being a strong support system and encouraging them to find their passion can help alleviate the unknown.

Direct them to KU resources

Whether students need tutoring or would like to take a career assessment to find out the best potential fit for them, KU can provide them with those resources.
